His Love Did

His Love Did

His Love Did

Charlie has quietly passed.

As the doctor pulls the sheet over his body, I take Ruth's hand in mine, gently loosening her grasp.

The act of separation, the severence of a lifelong connection is such a lonesome moment. My senses are overwhelmed.

I take Ruth back home. In the middle of her now empty living room, and for the first time, she weeps.

At nine PM, I return to St. George's. Now a somber and lonely place, I feel ill at ease.

I hear spirirt voices calling out to me. Looking at Charlie's empty stool, I sense what those voices are saying.

He speaks,
And the sound
Of His voice
Is so sweet
That the birds
Stop their singing...

Rolling Thunder

Narration

I paced the floor of his room.
His breath was short and I knew
it would only be a moment longer.

She sat quietly next to his bed.
She tightly held his hand as his eyes
met hers one last time.

Oh, those eyes spoke of a lifetime
of love as they dimmed and darkened.
She shed a single tear...
But she never let go of his hand...

end Narration

He didn’t want diamonds
Wasn’t searching for gold
He asked only for a warm sunrise
To give comfort from the cold

His life was joy with no anger
His every dream she could fulfill
He never fell into the danger
Of stepping out to find a thrill

chorus

He didn’t have to fool himself into believing
It wasn’t a love you could find ‘tween the pages of a book of dreams
He didn’t have to prove to anyone that his love would last forever
And he always dreampt of her in his love scenes

end chorus

He lived as a simple man
He never had the latest clothes
He held passion in the palm of his hand
And it wasn’t there just for show

He didn’t ask her for sympathy
She gave him never ending love
And I could tell by the look in her eyes
He would guide her from above

chorus

He didn’t have to fool himself into believing
It wasn’t love you could find ‘tween the pages of a book of dreams
He didn’t have to prove to anyone that his love
Would last forever
Oh but in the end,
I’m so glad that his love did
