Rolling Thunder

Rolling Thunder

I no longer can feel comfortable in this place. I have made my decision.

The bar must be closed.

Charlie's funeral is held on Thursday afternoon. Lilies sway in the occassional warm breeze as the ceremonies conclude.

Father Donald renders a solemn service telling those congregated near about the hope offered mankind in Christ's resurrection.

I ponder his meaning as I search for a sign... some token of confirmation to prove His love.

His Love

An empty stool...
Where Charlie ruled
He sat here for twenty years...

An empty glass...
His time now passed...
Last call closer than it appears...

On borrowed time...
To ease his mind
Charlie drank away his fears...

A fallen friend...
Life now at end...
Another round’ll help drown my tears...

chorus

I’d like to see his haggard smile
Bustin’ through that door
I wanna hear him yell across the floor
“Hey, set ‘em up boys!”

I’d like to have one last try
And this time set things right
Celestial promise closing in...
Eternal moments for a friend

end chorus

A joke or two...
Though tried and true
They never made sense to me

Ashtray and glass...
Full in the past...
Gone in the distant smoke of memory...

Another stool...
Left empty too...
This hellish tavern ain’t where I should be

Wednesday night... closing time...
The silence roars like wild
Rolling thunder in me...

chorus
