A Granddaughter's Wedding

A Granddaughter's Wedding

A Granddaughter's Wedding

The wedding was conducted uptown at the other St George's. Father Donald held a beautiful ceremony.

I was so proud of Donna and Randy. Betty had to have been smiling down from heaven. The clouds parted and a brilliant stream of sunlight bathed us as we left the church.

They held the reception here at my bar and grill. It was a magical day.

I serve Jerry another round and notice him staring intently into the jar of pickled eggs. Well, it's not a crystal ball, but sometimes a man can focus his thoughts in it's inner depths.

After a short while, Jerry picks up his beer and goes to the phone in the corner, slowly and deliberately punching seven numbers.

There's no doubt in my mind as to who he is calling. For his sake, I am hoping against all odds that Gail will answer.

Hello...

You gave me an angel, we called her our daughter,
O’er the years she brought us a child of her own
Who now stands at the altar in purest saffron and white
In trembling hands pressed flowers, red rose bouquet you once held tight

Here’s the man she will marry, he stands proud at her side
He’ll be the father of her children, she will be his only bride
He’s taking her father’s place just by touching her hand
With their kiss I relive the memory, how our own love story began

As bride and as husband for the rest of our lives
Through the sunrise of all tomorrows
Until sunset of winter’s night

Now that we are married, let the wedding bells ring
O’er sacred love everlasting
That will span eternity

So many years ago, though it doesn’t feel very long
We entwined our hearts together, with inescapable love
When I gently took your lovely hand and called you my own
Now they bind their lives together, we harvest the love that we’ve sown

I look back through our marriage, it seems my whole life
Has accounted one single story, my only love still my only bride
Through the time that we have left, with you close by my side
We will reach sundown together, at the dawn of another life

As bride and as husband for the rest of their lives
Through the sunrise of all tomorrows
Until sunset of winter’s night

Now that they are married, let the wedding bells ring
O’er sacred love everlasting
That will span eternity

Now that they are married, let the wedding bells ring
O’er sacred love everlasting
They will love eternally
