St. Peter Calling

St. Peter Calling

St. Peter Calling

St. Peter is brought one of Jerry's coats. He sniffs the air and quickly heads into the woods with the sheriff and his deputies in tow. Within minutes, St. Peter finds Jerry asleep nestled in the thorns of a blackberry bush. From his run through the woods last night, he is covered in weeds and scratches. Bleeding from his right temple and left forehead, Jerry is cuffed, shackled, and lead back to the sheriff's cruiser.

He sweats profusely as he slowly walks.

Still suffering from intoxication and from the accident, Jerry is weary. He doesn't answer the crowd.

He has surrendered without protest.

Millie and Charlotte have joined the mourning crowds outside St. George's.

They lament our loss of innocence.

Ivy On Their Wall (Reprise)

chorus

Do you hear the wind a howling
Can you see the treetops roll
Do you hear the thunder raging
Or a triumphant bugle blow

Can you hear the call of St. Peter
At the gate, you better welcome him
Can you tell me it ain’t over
If the saints stopped marchin’ in

end chorus

Do you recall your father teaching you to kneel down and pray
Setting you beside your bed to close out another day
Do you recall the Word of God that he told you way back then

You better think back fast
Cause it’s too late
St. Peter’s gonna bring you in...

Do you recall from Sunday school as you bowed your head and prayed
Taught to mind your “P’s and Q’s” at home, at work, at play
Do you recall the man of God preparin’ souls for the judgement day

You better think back fast
Cause it’s too late
St. Peter’s gonna bring you in....

Do you recall your mother as she wiped your tears that day
She lead you to the altar and baptised your sins away
Do you recall the feeling of joy when revival came and stayed

You better think back fast
Cause it’s too late
St. Peter’s gonna bring you in!

chorus

Do you see a shadow glowing
Do you detect a brimstone smell
Do you feel a furnace roaring in
The ever lasting flames of hell

Can you hear the call of St. Peter
Open gate and welcome him
Let me tell you the Word’s been written
My shepherd’s gonna bring you in
