The World To Know

The World To Know

The World To Know

It might be simpler if they didn't show up together in public, but that isn't in Magnolia's nature. She's not one to hide her feelings.

Paul thrives on the attention.

I haven't asked how he feels about his wife, Sue. He never talks about her, just the girl he's with at the moment.

Sue is a fine, sturdy and dignified woman. She deserves better.

Still, she's been seen with Bob on more than one occassion. Bob works for the parish part time as a handyman.

He's probably been handy with Sue... One never knows. Sue doesn't come to the bar.

Seven o'clock and Millie punches the clock. "Slow night, Millie," I tell her as she begins bussing the tables.

I don't know where I'd be without her. She almost took Betty's place five years ago. We didn't go through with the wedding... I know I need a wife, but I can't marry just for companionship.

I love her dearly... just not in that way.

Ivy On Their Wall

PaulHush little girl, now don’t say a word
There’s something on my heart
‘n coming straight from my soul
“I love you” but I don’t want the world to know
MagnoliaHush little boy, you don’t need to speak
I saw it in your eyes
‘n running rivers down your cheek
You love me no matter what the world will ever know
PaulLove unsanctified, running threads ‘cross my mind
No one can rend apart those loving ties that
Bind me to you
Still, I can’t let the whole world know
MagnoliaIt’s crossed my mind too, I’ve felt for no one but you
In the dark web of night, your arms hold me tight
But I wake in misery without you
Not alone, knowing love I cannot show
chorus
bothWe’ve been running through each other’s minds
Time after time... caught in symphony divine
Breathing the smoke of fires we have set
Searching for one lasting cigarette...
MagnoliaYou know “I love you”
PaulBut I don’t want the world to know
end chorus
PaulI long for the caress of sleepless nights with you
Touching you, and by dawn’s rising light I long to
Hold you, console you, with each morning kiss
Proclaim my love ‘n let the whole world know
MagnoliaI know what you’ve felt when I lay in your arms
The heat of my desire could make an ice cap melt
You won over my heart, in spite of the hand you were dealt
You know I love you, but I don’t want the world to know
PaulHush little girl, now, don’t say a word
There’s something on my heart
‘n coming straight from my soul
“I love you” but I don’t want the world to know
MagnoliaHush little boy, you don’t need to speak
I saw it in your eyes
‘n running rivers down your cheek
You love me no matter what the world will ever know
chorus
MagnoliaI know you love me
But I don’t want the world to let her know
